Cliste acquires Cork's Viaduct Inn for up to €2m
Cliste Hospitality plans to upgrade the pub and restaurant by the landmark rail viaduct to the level of other successful Cork bar and brasserie 'reboots'
Originating in the early 1990s as an inn, The Viaduct Inn became part of the Cliste Hospitality family, undergoing major redesign and refurbishment and reopening its doors to the public in September 2022 as a modern Irish brasserie with changing seasonal menus.
The reinvigoration of this local gem was to create a food and drink hall and restaurant with menus changing seasonally, which has become a destination dining option both for the local Bishopstown and wider Cork population and also for commuters to West Cork.
Behind The Viaduct’s New Brand Identity
A BRAND THAT BRIDGES THE PAST AND FUTURE
When I designed the brand identity for The Viaduct Restaurant, Market & Café, I was inspired by the powerful legacy and architectural grandeur of the Chetwynd Viaduct - an enduring symbol of strength, resilience, and history in Cork.
I selected a modern serif font for The Viaduct’s logo to bridge the past and present. Serif fonts evoke tradition, craftsmanship, and heritage, evoking the restaurant’s deep-rooted connection to the viaduct’s history.
The natural color palette draws inspiration from the surrounding Cork landscape - the deep greens of rolling hills, earthy browns of historic railway timber, and soft neutrals of the stone viaduct itself. The strategic use of accent colors - a bold rust, deep green, or a soft golden hue - pays homage to the industrial heritage of the Great Southern and Western Railway.
Just as the Chetwynd Viaduct once connected communities and commerce, The Viaduct Restaurant, Market & Café serves as a culinary and social bridge, uniting history, tradition, and modern gastronomy. Every design choice—from the typography to the color palette—celebrates the story of endurance, innovation, and Cork’s vibrant cultural fabric.
